Herning Municipality offers various forms of daycare, such as daycare mothers (who mind 3-5 children aged between 24 weeks and 2 years 9 months in their own home), daycare institutions, preschools and combined institutions. There are also youth recreation centres (fritidshjem), after-school care (skolefritidsordning - SFO), and various clubs for older children.

Parents also have the option of choosing private day care, receiving a subsidy for minding their own children, or having their children minded in a neighbouring municipality.

Herning Municipality guarantees daycare placement within the 13 daycare districts. This means that your child is guaranteed daycare placement within the daycare district you live in. If you want your child to have a specific daycare placement, we cannot guarantee placement within three months.

Section 4a of the Danish Primary School Act applies to all bilingual children aged 2 years 9 months to six years. This means that all young children who have a native language other than Danish – and who need it – will receive language stimulation at their preschool. Language advisors and child-care workers are responsible for these activities in the Herning municipality.

PladsZonen is a Web-based self-service system for parents who need childcare in Herning Municipality – or who currently have a child in daycare within the municipality.

Use PladsZonen to request daycare placement for your child, and to change or update the daycare placement you have already chosen.

PladsZonen also provides answers to a number of questions about daycare in Herning Municipality, and assistance with practical matters you need to consider as a parent with a daycare-age child.

PladsZonen allows you to:
• see what daycare options are available
• request daycare placement with a daycare mother or institution for your children
• make changes to requests or priorities
• see what position your child has on the waiting list
• calculate how much you will have to pay for childcare
• calculate sibling discounts and means-tested placement subsidies (økonomisk friplads)
• notify a change in income and apply for a means-tested placement subsidy
• withdraw children from daycare
• access news and information
• download relevant electronic folders
